I'm assuming she has her own personal computer at home but she needs to leave that stuff at home and not at our facility. she is just being lazy because she doesn't want to walk 10 ft to the large copier. If they want to use their budget to have IT purchase a printer to configure for the user, that's another story but someone bringing in some unknown outside devices that may or may not have been attached to other networks is not worth the risk. I don't know if she really had approval from anyone to have it. the employee's supervisor and director are both in agreeance (she can't have the printer). My boss and system administrator say absolutely not. If given the same scenario what would you do?ĮDIT: Given new information. professionally, I want to tell her no (SCREAM "HELL NO"), because its a personal printer I've never seen before I don't know where it been or what it been plugged into and could be a potential security risk(given I'm only a noob at IT just started at my work this year).
Her manager approved the install of the printer but never consulted the IT Department to see if we would be okay with that. So I get a call this morning from an employee, she brought a printer that she owns from home and is requesting a network cable to plug in the printer to our secure network (a hospital network) without the approval from IT. So TL DR employee brings in a personal printer and wants to install it on our network via ethernet cable to print holiday cards.
